On a Discovery Tour

Explore the diversity of the Eiderstedt Peninsula around Sankt Peter-Ording on varied circular tours. Six themed routes take you through expansive landscapes, along dikes, rivers, and the coast to striking landmarks and picturesque sandy beaches. Along the way, you’ll enjoy ever-changing views and discover the region from different perspectives. Discover Places That Captivate the Imagination

Lighthouse Tour (approx. 53.5 km)

This route takes you to the lighthouse "Westerhever", the landmark of Eiderstedt. Along the way, you’ll cycle through vast landscapes and charming towns like Osterhever, Garding, and Tating, before the red-and-white-striped giant reveals an impressive panorama stretching across pristine salt marshes all the way to the North Sea.

Tip: A detour to the Böhler Lighthouse is also worth it—this maritime landmark in St. Peter-Ording is a popular photo spot.

Wadden Sea Tour (approx. 64 km)



This tour follows the North Sea dike from St. Peter-Ording to Tönning. Sweeping views of the Wadden Sea, a World Natural Heritage Site, line the route. Along the way, you’ll pass special sites such as the Katinger Watt, "Eidersperrwerk" (flood barrier), and the Vollerwiek swimming area, before ending at the Aquarium Multimar Wattforum—the largest information center for the Wadden Sea National Park in Schleswig-Holstein.

Landmark of St. Peter-Ording

Stilt House Tour (approx. 24 km)



Around St. Peter-Ording, you’ll cycle to the famous stilt houses that have defined the landscape of the endless sandy beach for over 100 years. The route takes you along varied paths through the local districts, offering sweeping views of the beach and a fresh breeze. Detours to the Tümlauer-Koog and Tating add rural contrasts to the tour.

Discover Endless Expanses

Eiderstedt Country Tour (approx. 55 km)

This route winds through the vast marshlands of Eiderstedt, passing along dikes, "Fennes" (fields), and a seemingly endless horizon. Typical of the region are the many church steeples that repeatedly catch the eye. Along the way, charming towns and villages such as Garding, Tönning, Welt, and Tetenbüll invite you to take relaxing breaks and enjoy their rural charm.

A Unique Cultural Landscape

Cultural Treasures Tour (approx. 33 km)

Cultural treasures define this tour through Eiderstedt, blending history with the creative present. In Garding, Tating, Katharinenheerd, and Poppenbüll, cultural sites, historic gardens, and thatched-roof houses set the scene. Along the North Sea dike and in local studios, the cultural diversity of the peninsula comes to life.

Waterways Tour (approx. 41 km)

This tour combines leisurely cycling with special moments by and on the water. The loop tour takes you along the picturesque Eider River through parts of North Frisia and Dithmarschen. Along the way, you’ll discover highlights such as the historic harbor of Tönning and eventually reach Friedrichstadt, where charming canals and small bridges define the townscape.

Long-Distance Bicycle Routes in Eiderstedt

Those who enjoy longer trips will find two long-distance bike trails in Eiderstedt that can be explored flexibly in stages. The Viking-Frisian Trail follows historical routes from the North Sea to the Baltic Sea and connects coastal landscapes with cultural sites inland. This is complemented by the North Sea Coast Bike Trail, which runs from the banks of the Elbe to the Danish border.

In the Footsteps of History

Viking-Frisian Trail

Over a distance of about 173 km, you can follow in the footsteps of the Vikings and the Frisians—across Schleswig-Holstein, from St. Peter-Ording on the North Sea to Maasholm on the Baltic Sea. In the Eiderstedt region, the route runs from St. Peter-Ording through Vollerwiek to Tönning and Friedrichstadt. Along the way, you’ll find information boards, museums, and archaeological sites at many stops.

North Sea Coast Cycle Route

How about a longer ride? The North Sea Cycle Route is the longest bike path in the world and stretches for about 6,000 km through eight countries, including Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, and England—always along the North Sea. And did you know? A section of it runs along the Eiderstedt Peninsula and passes right by St. Peter-Ording.

Are you riding your e-bike in St. Peter-Ording and Eiderstedt, and is your battery running low? Then you can find the nearest charging station for your e-bike right here!

There are two e-bike charging stations, each with two charging points, located in the parking lot near the lighthouse "Westerhever".
For minor repairs or a quick tire pressure check, there is also a bike repair station with a built-in air pump.

There are two e-bike charging stations (and one repair station) in front of the Tourist Information Office in Garding.

There is a charging station at the community center in Tetenbüll. Please bring your own charging cable that is compatible with your e-bike battery.

There is an e-bike charging station at Café Theatrium in Tetenbüll. Please bring your own charging cable that is compatible with your e-bike battery.

In Tönning, there is a charging station on Herrengraben Street (near the castle park) next to the public restroom. The key to the charging box is available at the Tönning Tourist Information Office

There is an e-bike charging station at Dirks Bike Rental in Friedrichstadt.
