Sandy beach as far as your paws can take you

Together on the North Sea

When you hear the sound of the North Sea waves, feel the fine sand beneath your feet, and see your dog running happily by your side, you know you’ve arrived. At home by the sea.

Anyone planning a trip wants to experience nature alongside the people and animals they love. Kilometers of sandy beach and a gentle sea breeze provide the perfect conditions for just that. The unique stilt houses, the kilometer-long pier, and a fascinating dune landscape define the destination of St. Peter-Ording and the Eiderstedt Peninsula.

Here you’ll find everything you need for your trip to the sea—for both you and your dog.

Running areas for four legs

To make sure your four-legged friend gets to enjoy the North Sea, we offer specially designated dog-walking areas. In these spacious, marked areas, dogs are free to run, romp, and play with other dogs. Here, you can let your dog off the leash so they can fully enjoy the soft sand beneath their paws.

These dog parks are strategically located far enough away from the sensitive resting areas of birds and other animals. When visiting these areas, please always make sure your dog remains under your control. Harmonious coexistence at the dog beach ensures that all visitors—whether with or without a dog—can enjoy their time here without worry. Pay attention to the on-site signage; it reliably guides you to the areas where your dog can experience pure freedom.

  • Two dog-walking areas on the beach
  • One area within town at the edge of the forest (Westmarken area)
  • Leashes are required year-round outside these zones

Treating Nature with Respect

Leash Requirements and the Reasons Behind Them

Outside the spacious areas on the beach and in town, dogs are also welcome anywhere as long as they are on a leash. In town, on the dikes, in the salt marshes, and on sections of the beach, dogs must be kept on a leash year-round.

We bear a great responsibility for our unique habitat. The Wadden Sea National Park is a strictly protected area. Millions of migratory birds live here, foraging for food in the mudflats to sustain themselves on their long journeys across continents. In addition, our dike sheep help maintain the dikes and meadows, making them an important part of coastal protection.

Respectful coexistence means always keeping your dog on a short leash here. By staying on the right path—namely, the official trails and boardwalks—you help protect the sensitive dune vegetation, flora, and fauna.

Beach Chair Season with Your Dog

In the Sand & on the Podium

Divided into 5 different sections, the beach at St. Peter-Ording showcases its diversity for people and dogs alike. Each of these areas has its own unique character—whether wild and expansive or cozy and close to nature. And, of course, our beach chairs are always a must. Each beach section also offers designated areas for dog owners. Whether on dedicated platforms or right in the sand—the dog-friendly areas are clearly marked and ensure the perfect day at the beach for everyone.

Ording Beach Section: This area is particularly lively in all seasons. Beach and water sports dominate the open expanse. The sheer size of the area offers not only beach chair platforms and beach chair areas but also plenty of space to relax with your dog right at the water’s edge.

Ording Nord Beach Section: This section is known for its peaceful atmosphere. Pure nature and endless expanses take center stage here. If you want to completely escape the hustle and bustle, this area is ideal for long walks along the water’s edge. You’ll also find one of the dog-off-leash zones on the beach here, as well as dedicated beach chair areas where dogs are allowed.

Bad Beach Section: The pier takes you and your dog directly from the center of Bad through salt marshes, tidal creeks, and dune landscapes to the beach. This is also where you’ll find the second off-leash area for dogs. From here, you can once again set out on endless walks along the water’s edge. Beach chair platforms offer the perfect spot for a break or shelter from the sun and wind.

South / Village Beach Section: You can easily reach this section via the paths through the foreshore meadows. A walk there is already one of the day’s first highlights. Fewer sand dunes, but more salt marshes, tidal creeks, and quieter spots make this beach so special for anyone who wants to experience nature away from the hustle and bustle. All beach chairs on the Südstrand can be used with dogs. This beach is also used for horseback riding, though the beach chairs and riders are well separated from one another.

Böhl Beach Section: This area is particularly spacious and flat. It’s ideal for guests seeking peace and quiet—and for dogs. With your dog on a leash, you can walk here for hours toward the horizon or use the beach chair platforms to relax.
It’s important to note that this beach in Böhl is also used for horseback riding, so it’s especially important for different groups to be considerate of one another.

Watch out: Sun & Salt Water!

Well-prepared for the road

In the summer, a long walk along the beach to the water’s edge, the blazing sun, and the salty air can be especially exhausting for your dog. So be sure to pack plenty of fresh water, and on particularly hot days, give your dog a cooling scarf or a wet shirt from time to time.

Our tip: You’ll find drinking stations in front of many restaurants and tourist information centers in SPO.
