Mudflat Hikes

A guided mudflat hike will show you, in a fun and safe way, what makes this habitat so special. This way, both children and adults can experience why the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, is so worth protecting—and learn something new on every tour.

North Sea Animals Up Close

Animal Park "Westküstenpark"

Animal park "Westküstenpark" is home to many animals that live in the North Sea. A major highlight is the "Robbarium" (area for seals at the animal park)! Here, children learn a lot about the North Sea habitat in an adventurous way. Numerous animal feedings, alpaca tours, and guided tours invite visitors who want to delve deeper into the nature of the Wadden Sea.

Fancy a bike ride?

Lighthouses in Eiderstedt

The lighthouse "Westerhever" is easily accessible by bike. It’s also worth taking a look inside the lighthouse and marveling at the sweeping landscape. Children ages 8 and up are allowed to go up to the top. Feel free to stop by and enjoy an unforgettable bike ride.

Don’t forget the historic Böhl Lighthouse, which is also easily accessible by bike. Please note that you are not allowed to enter this lighthouse. Right around the corner, you’ll also find a playground!

Viewing platforms

To give you the perfect view, we have plenty of observation platforms for you to choose from. The most famous one in Eiderstedt is Maleens Knoll in the local district "Bad". It’s the highest dune in town and offers a sweeping view of the surrounding nature.

Erlebnis-Hus

At the Erlebnis-Hus in the local district "Bad," the little ones can let off some steam at the Spiele-Hus. In addition to a wide variety of events, you’ll find plenty of games, climbing structures, and toys to have fun with!

Older kids can also check out the Daddel-Hus. Here you’ll find a pool table, a foosball table, and air hockey! Plus: With the guest card, you get in for free.

Museums

When typical northern German weather is on the way or you’re simply in the mood for something new, a visit to the museums in Eiderstedt is well worth it. 

In St. Peter-Ording, you’ll find two museums: The Museum Landschaft Eiderstedt in the local district "Dorf" invites you on a historical journey through the peninsula. With models and original artifacts, you’ll learn something new every time! You’ll also find the Amber Museum in the village. Here, you’ll gain a wealth of knowledge about how amber is formed, where to find it, and what’s made from it.

In addition to routes that circle the entire peninsula, Eiderstedt offers pleasant options for every skill level. In St. Peter-Ording, you’ll find a route along the dike where plenty of benches invite you to take a break and where cars aren’t allowed. Depending on your fitness level, you’ll find many route suggestions at the local tourist information offices, as well as on the cycling map.
