Off the Beaten Path

Cuisine, Nature, and Culture

Visit the farm stands, where many locals also meet up for a chat; let yourself be enchanted by countless stories about the Wadden Sea, local history, or culture; or enjoy the salty, fresh air in what we consider to be the most beautiful places in the world. Take long walks to slow down, go on a bike ride to unwind, and always pack a pinch of happiness. And when that longing returns, you’ll know exactly where to find it.

Discover Nature

Eiderstedt Landscape

The peninsula’s natural landscape is one of a kind. Directly bordered on three sides by the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it offers endless views of meadows and spectacular vistas that often stretch all the way to the North Frisian Islands and Halligen. In Eiderstedt, you’ll find mound settlements and dikes, beaches and salt marshes, and plenty of open nature. You’ll find plenty of people to talk to, guided tours, and courses on your favorite topics, as well as a great selection of interactive exhibits, such as the Aquarium Multimar Wattforum in Tönning, the Wadden Sea Conservation Station in St. Peter-Ording or Westerhever, and the NABU nature conservation center in the Katinger Watt.

Local Culture

Eiderstedt offers a wide range of cultural activities. Visit the Haubargs, attend an event at the Hoyerswort Manor House, or take a leisurely stroll among the many thatched roofs. In our events calendar, you’ll find great daily suggestions for unforgettable events, but a spontaneous visit to the many museums and other cultural highlights—such as the art studios or galleries—is also well worth it. Whether it’s "Klootstockspringen," ring riding, Biike (traditional fire to say goodbye to winter), kale feasts, or—most importantly—Plattdüütsch. That’s typical North Frisia. Check it out!
