Heinz-Georg Fohrmann

It all started with a vacation in SPO. For many years now, Heinz-Georg and his wife Jutta have had a soft spot for St. Peter-Ording. He went from being a vacationer to a second-home owner, and from a second-home owner to a permanent resident. Today, as he himself says, he feels like a full-fledged resident of St. Peter-Ording. The retiree has now been living in beautiful St. Peter-Ording with his wife and grandchild for nine years. 

But anyone who thinks Heinz’s retirement consists solely of long walks on the beach, vacations, and plenty of rest is way off the mark! Because one thing is certain: Heinz is a doer and a helper with a big heart—and has been for over 40 years.  

In 2018, the now 68-year-old became chairman of the SoVD’s SPO chapter. Today, he remains an active member.

Heinz, who himself had to endure hardship in the past and sought help, tries to give back a fraction of that willingness to help. For him, one thing is certain: helping others is a moral duty. It doesn’t matter what kind of help is needed. Whether it’s paperwork, help with government procedures, doctor’s appointments, or simply a listening ear—anyone who needs help gets it. In doing so, Heinz isn’t afraid to make himself unpopular if necessary, so that everyone gets what they’re entitled to.

It’s important to Heinz that the needs of seniors and local residents in St. Peter-Ording are recognized. He actively advocates for this.

But even though many of the issues Heinz-Georg deals with in his daily life are rather serious, he doesn’t lack a sense of humor. Always quick with a witty remark, he advocates for more humanity and community. And when he does have a little free time, he spends it with his family. He prefers to be outside in the salt marshes—because that’s where Heinz enjoys the peace and quiet and recharges his strength and energy for the help he provides every day.
