What we do here is more of a way of life than a job.
A true SPO everyday hero

Dennis

Dennis Struwe has been working with children and teenagers for over 20 years and is now an integral part of the Nordsee Boarding School in St. Peter-Ording. As coordinator and head of curriculum and recreational activities, he is committed to offering his students opportunities for growth, providing them with a sense of accomplishment, and supporting their development every day. He always treats the kids as equals. But Dennis wants more. More educational and recreational opportunities for all children and teenagers in Eiderstedt.

Fun fact about Dennis

Now that word has gotten around about Dennis’s fondness for flamingos and the color pink, all sorts of gifts, items, and souvenirs in those shapes and colors are piling up from all sides… Whether he likes it or not, he’ll just have to deal with it.

More about Dennis

Helpers with a Vision

It was clear from an early age that Dennis enjoyed working with children and teenagers. In Hamburg, he studied physical education and history to become a teacher and was already involved in a number of social projects with children at that time. A few years ago, he left the big city for the Nordsee-Internat (nsi) in St. Peter-Ording. He initially worked there as an educator. Today, he serves as coordinator and is also responsible for recreational activities, teaching methods, and learning therapy programs at the boarding school.

For Dennis, one thing is certain: A diverse range of recreational and educational opportunities for children and teens is essential—this way, the kids are supported and, along the way, experience important moments of success.
Together with his students, he also set up the student café STURMfrei—true to the motto: Just do it, you can do it!
This café has since become the hub for many events, which are increasingly open to everyone outside the boarding school as well. It’s definitely worth checking out the boarding school’s social media to see if you can join in on the next event.

Dennis’s vision is to create a diverse range of recreational activities on Eiderstedt—not just for the students at the Nordsee Boarding School, but for all young people on the Eiderstedt peninsula.
And Dennis works tirelessly every day to make this vision a reality. Handball training with teens and adults on Eiderstedt, events, courses, learning therapy, partnerships—his desire to help St. Peter-Ording grow for the benefit of young people is strong, and his dedication is even stronger. Looking ahead, this sports-loving Hamburg native has one wish: more community connections in the town. Because as the saying goes, “Alone, you’re strong. Together, you’re even stronger.”

That’s Dennis. A true everyday hero of SPO.
