Swimming at the beach in SPO

Swimming in the North Sea is the most popular pastime on the beach at St. Peter-Ording, especially during the summer months. At 12 kilometers long and up to 2 kilometers wide, there’s plenty of space on the beach here!

From north to south, there are five beach sections that run parallel to the dike and the local districts. Each swimming area has its own character and is easily recognizable by its distinctive stilt houses.

At all of SPO’s swimming areas, lifeguards from the Tourism Office and the DLRG ensure the safety of swimmers.

The North Sea, the Treene, and the Eider

Swimming Fun in Eiderstedt

The idyllically situated beaches and swimming spots in Westerhever, Vollerwiek, Stufhusen, and Tetenbüllspieker are popular with many locals and visitors. Here, you can relax in peace during your vacation, unwind, and go for a swim in the North Sea without being disturbed.
The swimming spot in Tönning is located right on the dike and features both a grassy beach and a sandy beach. Here, you can enjoy your vacation in a beach chair or jump right into the Eider River from a pier. A large, lovingly designed playground invites children to play.

In Friedrichstadt, you can go swimming right in the Treene River. There’s an idyllic Bad spot here with sandy shores where you can sunbathe, linger, and relax to your heart’s content.
