The Wadden Sea National Park stretches from Denmark to the Netherlands and is thus part of the German North Sea coast in Schleswig-Holstein. And St. Peter-Ording and the Eiderstedt Peninsula are, in the truest sense of the word, “right in the middle of it.”

And did you know? Since 2009, the German Wadden Sea has even been a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. And one thing is certain—a visit to the Wadden Sea is worth it any time of year. Spring brings beautiful blooming salt marshes, and summer brings sunshine perfect for swimming in the sea. In the fall, you can watch storm surges, and in the winter, you’ll see ice floes and snow on the beach.

Immerse Yourself in Nature

Experience the Wadden Sea, a Natural Wonder

Would you like to experience the natural wonder of the “Wadden Sea” up close and go on a barefoot mudflat hike? Then head to Eiderstedt! There, rangers from the Wadden Sea Conservation Station—who have been caring for and protecting the Wadden Sea for over 60 years—will guide you through mud, sand, and salt marshes.

Our tip: Even in bad weather, you can stay dry and learn more about the Wadden Sea habitat and its plant and animal life at the National Park House in SPO, the National Park Seminar House in Westerhever, or the Aquarium Multimar Wattforum in Tönning.
